FRISBEE IN COSTA RICA

In 1990, the Miami Ultimate player Garrett Crosbie moved to Costa Rica to work as a teacher in a local private high school. Garrett started an informal practice with some of the high school students, later the practice moved to the soccer fields at one of the main universities in San Jose. The practice at the Universidad de Costa Rica was soon joined by college students and other Costa Ricans ('Ticos').

During this time there were numerous players that learned to play Ultimate in Costa Rica.  Many of these Ticos have moved on to other countries and continue to play there. Many 'gringos' have also passed through Costa Rica and shared the fun of Ultimate. Some of those players of the early years are still active, and continue to play Ultimate in Costa Rica and around the world. Today Ultimate Frisbee is still going strong in Costa Rica, where they hold practice two times a week under lights.
