The Experience

The Volcanic Tournament is an international hat tournament focused on playing Ultimate, having fun, and meeting new people. Players sign up individually, and we build balanced teams out of 200 total spots—80 Costa Rican players and 120 joining from around the world.

The tournament takes place at Tilajari Hotel Resort in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. This full-service rainforest resort has athletic fields on the property, making it easy to wake up, grab breakfast, and walk straight to the fields in the morning. It also makes it convenient to take a dip in the pool or relax sore muscles in the jacuzzi when teams have a bye. The resort grounds border the San Carlos River and are packed with tropical wildlife. Several local Costa Rican players are trained naturalists who are always happy to answer questions about the birds, iguanas, sloths, or other wildlife around the venue.

Tilajari's on-site Katira Restaurant is a great place to recharge between games, with à la carte menu options and buffet service on select evenings. Enjoy a relaxed meal overlooking the San Carlos River without ever needing to leave the property.
